THE PERFECT LAWN, 2000

It was my intention with "The Perfect Lawn", to create awareness about the obsession we have with the appearance of our yards. I am concerned with the various chemicals that are placed on the grass to keep it looking green,to make it better than our neighbors. The grass is placed above a pool of water to create a connection between what happens on the surface of the land and the ground water below.
I wanted to create an environment that was not specific to my ideas, but rather let the viewer bring their own experiences to it.

Inside the piece, there was a bench on the viewing deck. Above was fiberglass roofing to protect one from the rain. There was a raised bed of grass growing. This sat in a pool of water. The water was circulated in the pool through rocks and pumped up to a sprinkler system to create the rain.
